Ice Breaker

I took a plastic container and filled it with water, then added some of Gavin's favorite toys/things.

I put in a wine cork, popsicle sticks, paper clips, buttons, dinosaur, pez dispencer, toy cars, etc...

It took about 2 days to freeze.

It looks super awesome!!

Gavin was so excited and confused when he saw it.  It actually made him frustrated because he wanted the toys out that instant! haha.

I gave him his toy hammer so he can go at it!

I think the next step is to just put it in the bath tub and run some warm water and see what he does

This was a lot of fun!

Having Fun with Science! Baking Soda and Vinegar!

We had a ton of fun today exploring with baking soda and vinegar!

The first experiment we did:

Glass
Place 1 tablespoon of baking powder in Glass
Then add vinegar!

it creates a cool fizz and rises to the top, and may even overflow like ours did :)

he really enjoyed this one, kept saying "more, more"!

What I liked about it was that we just kept adding vinegar to keep the experiment flowing

The second experiment we did:

Baking dish
add baking soda
we used a little tupperware dish to add vinegar (then some food coloring)
took a medicinal dropper and filled it up with the red vinegar
and squeezed it into the pan!

another fun fizzing action!

He then pretty much figured out that he would have more fun just dumping the whole cup of vinegar into the dish than being patient with the dropper lol

The last experiment we did was blow up a balloon with this bottle!  (this one is my favorite!)

We took a bottle
filled it 1/3 way with vinegar
filled the balloon half full with baking soda
then when we were ready we tipped the balloon upward to release the baking powder into the bottle

and it grew and grew!

Our Failed Attempt at making homemade Flubber!

So I found this awesome project to make with Gavin..Home made Flubber!

We did one mixture of 1.5 cups of warm water, 2 cups of Elmer's Glue, and food coloring...
A second mixture of 3 tsp of Borax and 1 Cup of Warm Water...
after mixing those separately real well, we put mixture 1 into mixture 2....

and this is our final result!

Does not look like flubber...ugh...we did have fun "making" it...but Gavin thinks it's gross...lol...Maybe we'll try this again in a few years :)

Talkin' to you Babe! Our DIY Telephone!

So I was thinking the other day, how cool would it be to come up with something fun so Gavin can talk to the baby!  I was eating fruit out of a can, and it hit me!  Let's make an old school telephone!!!  PERFECT!

So....we did....

I took two empty mandarin orange cans, (used the one with the pull tops so there are no sharp edges), and cleaned them in the dish washer.

Took some leftover wrapping paper from his birthday and glued it to the can

we punctured a hole from the outside and used hemp string

Then I took our colorful dry pasta we made a few months ago and strung it on the string

He had so much fun talking to his brother or sister <3

I captured a video of him too!

Our DIY Button Counting Sticks

We've been so lazy lately since I've found out I was prego, so we haven't had too much fun!

It's been super cold outside, not much to do, so we finally got a little crafty today!

This was a lot of fun to do.

I had Gavin pick out the buttons and I hot glued them on popsicle sticks.

then we glued some buttons to our jar.

I also placed some random buttons in the bottom so we can count with those as well.

Looks awesome!!

Week 13 - Theme - Cars & Trucks

Today we started week 13!  Our theme this week is Cars & Trucks!

Gavin will definitely be interested in this :)

We started out our day by coloring a car & truck print out.

Our Vocab Word is Gasoline, so I showed himwhere we put gas in the car and then we went to the gas station and I showed him how we fill up our cars with gas to make them go.

and he said the word "gas". YAY!!!

Then I made a steering wheel out of cardboard and colored a stop sign printout.  We pretended to drive around the house with our wheel and when we approached the stop sign, we would STOP!  I showed him how to STOP, then look both ways to make sure our path was clear.

Then we made a traffic light on paper.  I colored it in for him and told him to put the tissue papers colors with the colors on the paper.  I am so proud of him that he placed the red on red, yellow on yellow and the green on green! Amazing!!

Then I explained the traffic light and what the colors meant.

I then took him to this car racing museum in Welcome, NC.  He loved it but he was upset because he wanted to get in the racing car badly lol.

Here are a few photos from our field trip!
